It’s that time, we’re in the midst of invitation printing, packaging and sending.  We bought an invitation kit from Walmart, a Wilton brand, and I’m really really happy with it.  I think it’s very pretty and we saved a TON of money by printing ourselves.

Setting up the templates and the printer to print correctly are a bit more challenging.  We’re still fighting with the response card envelopes.  And by “we” I mean “Nate”.  For all my computer abilities, I’m really pretty awful with them, especially when it comes to this stuff, so the duty of printing has become Nate’s battle.

So on the topic of stress, I admit I’ve been letting it get to me lately.  Just everything starts to pile up on me.  My story yesterday: I go to the post office with one of my invitations all packaged up to have it weighed and buy the postage necissary.  I pull out the response card and envelope, to be sure that’s only going to need the regular 44 cent stamp.  The woman behind the counter takes it from me, looks at me with concern and says “how many of these did you buy?”  My heart sank to my stomach.  “100. Why?”  She proceeds to tell me it’s too small to be mailable.  She shows me on her little template thing that the envelope is 1/2 inch too small.  Seriously?  She gets on the phone with someone and has at least a 15 minute back and fourth with whoever she’s talking to about what to do.  In the meantime a line is beginning to grow behind me.  My blood pressure must have been through the roof.  All we have left to do is print the response envelopes and the invitation envelopes.  I let her know my save the dates were sent in an even smaller envelope with only a 44 cent stamp and they all seemed to be delivered fine.  (**Please tell me if you did not get your save the date magnet, or if you were required to pay extra postage!)  She didn’t buy that.  All this work, no way is this happening.  I was really on the verge of tears.  She gets off the phone and tells me I can either A.) buy new, bigger envelopes to incluce and only use a 44 cent stamp or B.) use this small envelope, pay 60 something cents a peice “and risk it being deliverable”.  I just said give me the 44 cent stamps.

To be honest, I think I’m just going to use the original envelopes. Shhh, don’t tell USPS! If the save the dates went out fine, I don’t see why these won’t too.  I think she’s full of it.  And while we’re being honest, I did cry later too.  I was able to keep it back while in the post office, but once I got home I lost it.  Not about the envelopes themselves, I guess, just everything.  I told you I was on the way to becoming a crazy bride!  It’s just my type A personality, I need organization and the slightest bit of chaos throws me into a panic.  Just breathe.  “I will not be a crazy bride, I will not be a crazy bride, I will not be a crazy bride…” 🙂

Wedding Weekend

It’s been a crazy busy weekend.  With all this rain and yucky cold weather, it was perfect for locking ourselves indoors and getting tons of crafting done.  I realized I don’t want to give away every detail, I want to leave some things to be a surprise for you, so I apologize for the vague nature of these pictures.  🙂

I had to work most of the day Saturday at the theatre for the MeAct One Act Festivals, which CLT was hosting.  Saturday night we went to Nate’s cousin Nick’s graduation party – pig roast. Yumm! So Sunday was the “let’s get it done” day.  Kate picked me up at 8:00 and we attempted to go yard sale-ing.  I say attempted because although there were plenty of signs out, no one was open.  It might have had something to do with that rain stuff coming down, but we didn’t understand that, as illustrated by Kate screaming out the windows “why isn’t anyone open?!” as her windshield wipers are on full blast.

So we came home and got to work.  My mom and my sister Michelle came over to help.  We got lots of work done: some signage for the wedding, lots of painting and sewing and fun projects.

Ann came over from the white house to show us the dresses she’s picked up.  My mom still hasn’t got her dress so it was helpful to see what Ann was thinking.  On that point, I need to schedule my next dress fitting too! Ahh!

We have a meeting this Saturday with University of Maine Farmington to discuss menu, floor plan and reception logistics.  I’m excited to get that nailed down. Then Sunday we’re meeting with Dan Johnston, our pastor/officiant.

There’s lots going on and lots to do.  It’s incredible how this wedding is beginning to consume my every thought.  I sleep with a notepad next to me and have a bag of my binder, magazines and notepad that is with me all the time.  I can’t seem to focus on anything, since every two seconds I’m thinking of something else that needs to get done.  It’s going to be a long three months, I’m so ready for 8.20 to get here!!

Yay! Flags

So in thinking of the walk back down the isle, after we become Mr. and Mrs., I was trying to decide what I want.  We’re not going to have the traditional “leaving the church, throwing rice” kind of thing, so our walk back down the isle is that moment for us. So do I want all of you hucking a handful of rice in my face…uh, not really.  The ideas of bird seed or flower seeds fall in the same category, plus bird seeds attract birds which, er, create a mess (and are freaky, flying creatures that terrify my mother.  Case in Point.) I also heard a story about someone who got a seed or piece of rice or something lodged in their ear and it became infected and had to be surgically removed.  I also heard of a website where you can order frozen butterflies, essentially, and when you get them and they warm up they wake up so you can release them.  Beside that just being super weird and freaky they’re like $8 a bug. No way, Jose,

So now that I have thourougly freaked you out with all the things we are not going to do, let me tell you what we are going to do: wave flags! Yay! Inspired by the idea on the wedding blogs I read I decided to make some myself!  My mom ordered basic flags from Oriental Trading and they were super cheap.  I created the words and printed them out on iron on transfer paper.  (Remeber, when using transfer paper, print in Mirror Image!)

If you’d like to use my template, I’ve included the document HERE.  Nate cut out all the words for me, and between a couple hours last night and a couple today while watching Shrek: The Final Chapter I ironed them all on.

I think they came out pretty good! We used “Yay!”, “Hooray”, “Yipee!” and “Yeah!”.  I’m excited to set them up at the ceremony on a table with this sign:

Hooray! And I have one word about how I feel about checking one more thing off the list:

“Yipee!”
